| Dec. 5, 2007, Cinetecha, Monterrey, MX - Screening for the first time in Mexico, MISSISSIPPI CHICKEN played to a crowd comprised of activists, immigrant workers now living on home soil, professors, and students. The desertous mountains and psychedelic sunsets provided a cinematic backdrop for the Forum, which allowed filmmakers, activists, musicians, performance artists, journalists, and the curious Monterrey resident to share their stories in an enviroment that truly lived up to its name. Following the Dec. 5 & 6th screenings, the film provoked a charged response from an ad executive responsible for the Mexican marketing account of one of the major US poultry companies. He shared his shock and dismay at how the dismal conditions and worker abuses were swept under the rug at a recent tour of a poultry plant, and he vowed to mobilize his family and friends to contribute to the effort of building awareness and supporting MPOWER, the non-profit group documented in the film. |

If you've been driving through downtown Austin lately you've probably noticed several large billboards advertising the U.N.-sponsored Universal Forum of Cultures. It's an 80-day festival in Monterrey, Mexico, that's being touted as the new "world's fair." Mississippi Chicken has been invited to screen in the Forum's Migration Film Festival in late November. More info to come later...

| We have been invited to screen the film in our hometown at the Austin Film Festival. This will be a long-anticipated homecoming for the film, and we're excited to be a part of this year's AFF. We've attended the festival before and really enjoyed the attention to the filmmakers--and this year may prove to be the best AFF ever. Oliver Stone is in attendance, as well as many of our favorite film friends from LA and NY. Thanks AFF. |
